Helen K. Pratt, of Reed City, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Timber Ridge Senior Assisted Living Facility in East Lansing. She was 92.

Helen was born September 15, 1920, to Joseph and Justina (Green) Illig on the family homestead near West Branch and attended school in West Branch. Helen was the oldest girl of 11 children. She married Carl Sutherlund in 1938. Carl was killed in the Battle of the Bulge on January 1, 1945. Helen was a strong, resourceful person, doing the best she could to raise her two children. She married Arthur E. Pratt in 1946, and they had one child. Arthur preceded her in death in 1985.

Helen had been a resident of the Reed City area since 1941 until moving to the Lansing area in 2009. She had worked in bookkeeping at the old Reed City Hospital, was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the VFW Women's Auxiliary.

Surviving are her children, John (Darlene) Sutherlund of Williamston, Carol Pratt of Reed City, and Gloria (Robert) Robbins of Mason; three sisters, Genevieve, Georgina and Irene, and two brothers, Ambrose and Adolph; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers, a son-in-law and grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dawn Pooley officiating. Burial will be in Ashton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 2012, from 3 to 6 p.m. at McDowell Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family requests that those who desire to make contributions do so to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Carol Pratt, to be used toward gifts for the loving, tender caregivers at Timber Ridge.
