Anne Katherine Abernathy

Shawnee resident Anne Katherine Abernathy died Friday at her home. She was 57.

Ms. Abernathy was born April 24, 1943, the daughter of Kenneth and Katrine Abernathy.

She graduated from Shawnee High School and the University of Oklahoma.

At OU, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and was named Outstanding Woman Student and outstanding member of her sorority as a senior.

She previously lived in Houston, Texas, and was a member of the Junior League of Houston, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Ms. Abernathy had moved to Shawnee to care for her mother, Katrine Abernathy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Katrine Abernathy; and her grandparents, George C. and Carrie Howell Abernathy.

Survivors include her uncle, George C. Abernathy Jr.; and six cousins, Carri Abernathy Bell, Jack H. Abernathy Jr., Helen Abernathy Rollins, Ruth Abernathy Peksens, Gail Abernathy Middleton and Ann Abernathy Ransdell.

Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Shawnee or a charity of choice.

A memorial service was Wednesday, at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Max Shumake officiating. Private burial was held at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee.
