Christian Bach was born and raised in the small village of Rhoden in Waldeck (outside the city of Frankfurt am Main). He was one of nine children born to Karl Christian Bach and Marie Wilhelmine Plücker. He met his wife, Sarah Jane Humphreys, after immigrating to the USA. He and his wife had two children, Anna Edwards Bach and Mary Bach. Anna was adopted by Chris and Sarah as a child but the date is unknown.

Prominent Merchant and Lodgeman Passes Away at Kingston
Christian Bach, a prominent merchant of Kingston, died yesterday morning at his home, 219 North College Avenue, of heart trouble. Mr. Bach had only been ill about a week and his condition was not considered serious until last Friday. Mr. Bach had been a resident of Kingston for the last forty-one years, coming there from Plymouth in 1875.
He was born in Rhoden, Germany, on April 1, 1850, where he received his education and at an early age learned the tailoring business. He lived at Frankfurt on the Rhine for some time and in 1871 he immigrated to this country, settling in this city for a time and later moving to Plymouth.
Mr. Bach was the promoter and the first president of the West Side Light Co., which was located near the D., L. & W. Railroad on Pringle Street. He was a former member of the Kingston School Board and at one time was postmaster of Kingston. At the time of his death he was a member of the Kingston Board of Health. He was affiliated with Kingston Lodge 395, F. & A. M.; Kingston Lodge, No.709, I. O. O. F., and treasurer of the latter society for twenty-six consecutive years; and was a trustee and member of the official board of the Kingston M. E. Church. Mr. Bach was one of Kingston's most progressive citizens and he leaves a large circle of friends throughtout the country to mourn his death.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mary, wife of Dr. Charles L. Schafer of Kingston; one brother, Herman Bach of Kingston, and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Mueller of Germany. The funeral will be held from his late home Wednesday afternoon at 8 o'clock and will be in charge of Kingston Lodge, No. 395, F. & A. M. Interment in Hollenback Cemetary.
