Besides her husband, Mrs. Shafer is survived by three sons, Charles, a student at Syracuse University Medical School; Robert and Edward, both members of the sophomore class at Syracuse University.
Funeral services will be held from the home on Thursday afternoon. Rev. Dr. Norman W. Clemens, pastor of First Methodist Episcopal Church, Kingston, will officiate. Interment will be in Hollenback Cemetery.
Mary Bach Shafer was born in Kingston 49 years ago, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Bach. Her father, who died a number of years ago, was a prominent businessman on the West Side and erected the building on Market Street which houses the Kingston post office. Her mother died on January 16th of last year.
Mrs. Shafer attended Kingston public schools and Wyoming Seminary and, in 1912, was married to Dr. Shafer.
A woman of kind and pleasing personality, Mrs. Shafer was widely known throughout Wyoming Valley. For several years she was active in a number of organiation but recently had not been able to devote much attention to them be cause of ill health. She was a member of Kingston M. E. Church, West Side Visiting Nurse Association, of which she was formerly a board member, Luzerne County Medical Society Auxiliary and Black Diamond Post, American Legion Auxiliary.
