Suggested edit: Bates County Democrat, April 5, 1928 - "Andrew Jackson Powell, one of Bates County's oldest residents, passed away at his home in this city Saturday morning, March 31, at 10:30 o'clock. He had been in failing health for some time. His wife preceded him in death on February 18, 1928. "Uncle Jack" Powell, as he was familiarly known, was a native Missourian, , being born in Schuler county about 91 years ago. In 1867 he came to Bates county and located in Lone Oak Township where he resided for many years, moving to Butler a number of years ago where he had since made his home. Mr. Powell was Bates County's oldest Civil War veteran. During the war he served with the 7th Missouri Calvary. He is survived by four children, Lee Edgar Powell, Mrs. Lucetta P. Cobb, Mrs. Clara Stokes and Mrs. Alta Warren all of Butler. Funeral services were held from the home of the youngest daughter, Mrs. Alta Warren on Harrison street, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock."
