Suggested edit: Bates County Democrat, February 23, 1928 - "Mrs. Nancy Melvin Powell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Melvin was born at Lancaster, Schulyer County, Missouri, March 8, 1846, and died February 18, 1928, age being 82 years, 11 months and 10 days. She was married to Andrew Jackson Powell August 25, 1852. Tp this union ten children were born, six of them preceded their parents in death. Four children, Mr. Lee Edgar Powell, Mrs. Lucetta P. Cobb, Mrs. Clara Stokes and Mrs. Alta Warren all of Butler with thirteen grandchildren and Uncle Jack the husband are left surviving. Uncle Jack is very feeble and low and seems cannot last very much longer. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Powell have made their home in Bates county and in Butler. About January 1900 Mrs. Powell was converted in a revival meeting conducted by this writer, at Star Bethel four miles south of Butler and united with the church there and was baptized at the close of the meeting with several others. She was true to her God and His church unto death. She was indeed a faithful wife, loving mother and consistent Christian and neighbor. The funeral was conducted by the writer and former pastor at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Jess Warren, with a very large crowd of friends in attendance, Monday 2 p/m/ February 20, 1928. Interment in the Fairview cemetery. The fine singing by Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Hare with Mrs. Artie Fox at the piano was greatly appreciated, it was fine."
