WEISHAMPLE - A Pottsville woman was killed Thursday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Deep Creek Road in Barry Township. Suzanne Heller, 32, of 1632 W. Norwegian St., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police at Schuylkill Haven. The investigation into the crash is continuing, police said. Heller's body was taken to Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic and an autopsy will be performed today by forensic pathologist Dr. Richard P. Bindie. The driver, Robert E. Liem, 41, of 212 Biddle St., Gordon, had fallen off the motorcycle and suffered numerous injuries, police said. He was in critical condition this morning at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, a hospital spokeswoman said. Both Liem and Heller were wearing motorcycle helmets, police said.
The accident happened at 4:25 p.m. as Liem was heading eastbound on Deep Creek Road. About a half mile west of the Route 901 intersection, Liem failed to negotiate a left turn, and his motorcycle left the road and hit a dirt bank, police said. After impact, he continued to travel along the embankment for 50 yards, striking numerous shrubs and causing Liem and Heller to fall off the motorcycle, police said. The motorcycle sustained moderate damage and came to rest about 150 yards east of the initial impact, police added. Lavelle firefighters, Hegins Ambulance and West Schuylkill ALS assisted police on scene.
