MaryLouise Bicht Heller, 87, of Pottsville, died very peacefully Sunday evening at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, Jan. 3, 1928, she was the second daughter of the late Clarence Gottleib and Mary Ellinger Folk Bicht. Her sister, Betty Virginia Bicht Rescorla, preceded her in death during the 1993 World Series.

MaryLouise graduated from Pottsville High School, Class of 1945. During her high school years, she was a volunteer for the Office of Civilian Defense charged by FDR to promote protective measures such as assisting with air raid drills and elevating local morale by closing the air raid curtains at Club 18.

She was accepted at Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing, however, her parents protested her move to New York. Instead, she attended the original Penn State Schuylkill campus on Howard Avenue and majored in pinochle until she decided to transfer to a New York City Medical Technology program. Following her graduation, MaryLouise moved to Florida and worked as a medical technician at the VA Hospital in Miami. She returned to Pennsylvania in the early '50s and worked at Philadelphia's Hahnemann Hospital, The University of Pennsylvania Hospital, and The Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic. Always one for new and different activities, MaryLouise was a frequent on-call dental assistant, real estate agent, kitchen designer and jack-of-all-trades.
MaryLouise was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frederick Kohler Heller, in 1988; a daughter, Suzanne Clarissa Heller, in 2002.
Survivors include her children, Martha Cole Heller and her husband, John H. Fahnestock, and Frederick Kohler Heller and his wife, Sherry Culbert Heller; grandchildren, Kathryn Cole DiCello, Heather Lynne Yuda, Bradley Lawrence Yuda, Rachele Lynne Heller and Geoffrey Kohler Heller; great-grandchildren, Jaelyn Cole Carter, Emma Elizabeth McNulty, and a beautiful bun in the oven; nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
MaryLouise's family planned a funeral service at Trinity Episcopal Church, Pottsville. The Rev. Cannon Clifford B. Carr will officiate at her funeral service. Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, Saint Clair, had charge of arrangements. Condolences can be sent to www.brucethartfuneralhome.com.
