Florence Schoen

Florence Schoen, 89, Gurley, died Thursday, Nov. 4 at Memorial Health Center, Sidney.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Gurley with Pastor Donna Durrette officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Sidney.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home Sidney.

A memorial has been established.

Florence May Schoen, daughter of George and Eleanor Regnier, was born Jan. 22, 1910, at Lincoln, where she grew up. She married John A. Schoen in Lincoln on May 18, 1930. They mover to a farm near Gurley in 1931 where they still lived.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church where she taught both Sunday and bible [sic] school, was a member of the Altar Guild, the WELCA, a lifetime member of the CLW and attended bible studies. She was also a member of the Wheathearts and was named the Wheatheart of the Year, and also served as a 4-H leader.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, piecing quilts, and baking, especially Christmas cookies.

She is survived by her husband, John Schoen of Gurley; one son, Burdettte Schoen of Lincoln; one daughter, Eleanor (Ellie) Keller of Republican City, Neb.; one brother, Harold Regnier of Valparaiso, Neb.; one brother-in-law, Ernest Schoen of Nampa, Idaho; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter.

The Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
