1933-2012 Helen C. Ahearn, 79, a longtime resident of Convent Avenue in Bennington died Wednesday August 1, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Albany, N.Y., on January 3, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Julia (Brazell) Cone. Helen received her education in Bennington and was a 1950 graduate of Bennington High School and a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph's Business College.

She married John E. Ahearn on May 8, 1954 at Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Mr. Ahearn died March 3, 2003.

Helen was employed as a medical and legal secretary. For twelve years she worked for the Department of Social and Rehabilitative Services from which she retired.

Helen loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and attending her grandchildren's various activities.

She is survived by five children, Patricia Masterson and her husband Joseph of Narragansett, Rhode Island, Julianne Roy and her husband James of Bennington, Vt., Kevin Ahearn and his wife Ramona of Queensbury, N.Y., John Ahearn and his wife Karen of Bennington, Vt., and Kathleen LaCroix and her husband Andre of Loxahatchee, Florida; Five grandchildren, Christopher and Tyler Roy and Kate, Bridget and Colleen Ahearn. A sister Frances Anglin and her husband James of South Yarmouth, Mass., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition she leaves her loving caregiver Autumn Dorman and a great friend and co-worker Beth Sausville

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday August 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday August 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

If friends desire contributions in memory of Helen may be made to either Sacred Heart School or the Alpha 1 Foundation through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
