US Census in 1860 shows them living in Hallock, Peoria Co. IL. 1870 they are in Reeve, Franklin, Iowa where 4 children were born. By Nov. 1870 they had moved by covered wagon to a farm near Wichita, KS. Later Amos bought a farm in Republic Co., KS and built a two story house in the spring of 1875. In about 1876, Amos went to Oregon at the recommendation of his doctor and stayed in the home of a relative, possibly his uncle Joel Sanford. He stayed about 1 year, recorded his earning, sending money home to his family.
When daughter Abigail May, married their hired man Gilbert Irvin Tiff, on April 15, 1894, Amos added on a bedroom to the NW corner of the house. After Amos and his wife died, Luella Reed continued to live with her sister Abigail, "Irv" and family. Gilbert "Irv" Tiff then purchased the farm from the Reed estate. All 5 of Abigail's children were born in this house. Due to Abigail's health they sold the farm in 1918 and moved to Wiggins, CO.
I have a copy of the letter Amos wrote to Elizabeth in 1855, if anyone would like a copy, contact me.
