Simon's sister Mary Florence told of the time of Simon's death. Simon lost his fathers hatchet and his father sent him to find it. Later they were to find Simon asleep at a corn crib. He feared not to find the hatchet and go back to his pa, evidently cried and fell asleep. Simon took cold and was ill for 14 days with fever. His father Amos, wrote of him slowly slipping away, Simon knew them but could not talk, speach finally failed and he died.
He was 5 years, 9.6 mo old.
