Fulton GI Killed In War: Mr. & Mrs. Tom Baker, RR1, were informed today, May 22, 1968, that their son, PFC Mike has been killed in action in Vietnam. Details of his death were not immediately available. Pfc. Baker was sent to Vietnam on February 4th. He was killed May 19. He was a 1966 graduate of Fulton High School. He entered the Army last August.

Pfc. Baker's Funeral Sunday: Funeral services for Pfc. Thomas Michael "Mike" Baker, 20, who was killed in action on May 19, 1968 near DaNang, South Vietnam, will be Sunday June 9, 1968 at 2 p.m. at the Maupin Funeral Home. The Reverend Fred Pulliam and the Reverend Sam McLerran will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Baker, RR1; three brothers, Bobby Baker, Duane Baker and Steve McKinney; a sister, Mrs. Carol Martin; and grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Foster, Mrs. Minnie Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fletcher, all of Fulton. Pfc. Baker was with the 198th Division, and he was the sixth Callaway County serviceman killed in Vietnam, and third this year.

Thomas Michael "Mike" Baker was born in Fulton, Missouri, to Jesse R. "Tommy" Baker (memorial #98797548) & Pattie Dean (Foster) Baker (memorial #23553534). Mike's grandparents were Cornelias & Mary (Nichols) Baker; and Raymond & Callie (Nichols) Foster.

Thomas was in Company C 1st BN 52nd Infantry 198 Inf BDE Americal DIV.

Per FAG contributor, Marsha Williams Byrd: The Fulton Sun (newspaper) ran an article written by Jessica Stone and published on July 3, 2015, titled "New Era Of Veterans To Be Honored In July 4 Fulton Parade" which includes Thomas Baker. Thomas and nine other Callaway County Vietnam veterans who were killed in action will be remembered in the Fulton Independence Day parade.

Corporal Thomas Michael Baker began his tour on February 4, 1968 and served as an infantryman. According to the Virtual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall he was killed by enemy fire on May 19, 1968 in Quang Tin Province, South Vietnam and he was laid to rest in Callaway County, MO.

Corporal Baker's brother, Bobby Baker and possibly another brother will be riding in a convertible with a banner on the side to receive individual recognition for their brother, Thomas. Thomas's name, date of birth, rank, military branch and his date of death will be listed on the banner.
