Dr. Joseph Renato Arena, MD, 51, of Wilmington, died Thursday, November 9, 2006.
He was born October 6, 1955, in Fulton, NY. Dr. Arena received an AA in Nursing, a BS in Biology from the College of Santa Fe and his MD degree from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, and completed his residency at Texas Technical in El Paso, Texas.

Dr. Arena was board certified in Emergency Medicine and had been a practicing physician with Eastern Carolina Emergency Physicians since 1999. His practice time was divided between Cape Fear Hospital in Wilmington, NC, and Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw, NC. Additionally, Dr. Arena was the Medical Director for the Pender Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.

Dr. Arena is survived by his wife, Veronica Fernicola Arena, formerly of Whiteville; sons, John and Nicholas of the home; daughter, Demetrea; mother, Rae Arena; brothers, John, Ralph, Peter and Anthony; and his sister, Jo Ann. He is greatly missed.

His loving family feels that his young sons will someday need to know what a wonderful, loving man their father was. It is requested that relatives, friends and colleagues who have fond thoughts and memories of Joe (Ray) send their written feelings about him to:
