John F. Compton was the oldest Compton child born to Nancy Aveline McCain Compton and Dr. James McCain Compton in Caddo Parish Louisiana. After leaving home, he lived with his sister, Sudie Noel Compton Newton for a while, and then his Compton aunt and uncle. He never married, and helped his uncle and aunt make a living by farming. He liked to hunt, fish, and enjoyed nature. He passed away in Somerset, Bexar County, Texas in 1941. He never married. He was named for his father's brother, John F. Compton, who was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1841.
