Mr. Adams was born on October 24, 1924 in Pittsylvania County, a son of the late Harry Adams and the late Mary Burnett Adams. He had lived most of his life in Danville. He was a graduate of Spring Garden High School and was retired from Vulcan Materials Company after 38 years of service.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Ridgeway, Va. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II under the command of Gen. George Patton and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

On November 26, 1950, he was married to Annie McGregor Adams, who died on June 23, 2010.

Mr. Adams was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Ann Powell, a sister, Elizabeth A. Krueger and three brothers, Edsel Adams, Frank Lee Adams and Patton Coleman Adams.
