HAMPTON - Margaret Earhart Mingee passed away on March 22, 2009, at Sentara Careplex Hospital.

Born Jan. 12, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Isadore Earhart and Kathleen Wikman, she relocated to Phoebus in 1933 where her father was employed at the Veteran's Administration Center. In 1948, she was married by her uncle, the Rev. Vernon Bowers to Gene Mingee in the rectory of Saint Mary's Church, Fort Monroe. She was employed in the Accounting Department at Fort Monroe, and later worked for Cooper's Department Store, The Towne Shoppe and E. L. Clarke Clothing, all located in the town of Phoebus. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

Margaret was a loving wife and a proud mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Gene W. Mingee Sr.; her two daughters, Carla Gene Mingee of Newport News and Karen Mingee Nasal (Carl) of Yorktown; two sons, Gene W. Mingee Jr. of Hampton and Glen A. Mingee (Mika) of Midlothian; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Carrie Barroso, Justin Russell, Ashton Lee and Zachary Mingee and Cecilia and Olivia Mingee; and her two sisters, Viola Wood and Isabel O'Keefe, both of Hampton.

In August, 2008, Margaret and Gene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They proudly lived for 51 years in a house constructed by Gene and his brothers. Margaret was loved very much. She influenced many lives and will be missed and thought of daily.

Margaret embodied Christmas and what it represents. She supported fine charities such as Toys for Tots and the Angel Tree.
