Funeral services for Ruth Reed, age 89, was Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, Minnesota. Father David Breu officiated. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery.
Ruth Catherine Reed was born on March 12, 1923, at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, Minnesota to parents Gustave and Margaret (Faber) Wolter. She was baptized on March 25, 1923 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley by Father John B. Wilker. She attended Browns Valley School, graduating in 1941. During her school years she was a member of St. Anthony's Choir. Sister Theophane was the Music Director and Father Peter Lauer was the priest. After graduation she worked in Maryland, Washington and in her hometown.
On December 26, 1944, Ruth was united in marriage to Richard Reed and to this union eight children were born. In 1949, her mother died, and they moved from Waubay, South Dakota to Browns Valley to care for her father and to establish Reed Fish Company, which Ruth managed until Richard's death.
Ruth was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Confraternity of Christian Mothers, St. Anthony's Guild, Wm. Krensing Legion Auxiliary, and St. Anthony's Prayer Circle. She enjoyed taking care of the church flowers and the special needs of the Sanctuary. Ruth sent news to the St. Cloud Visitor for 12 years.
Ruth loved spending time with her family, sharing picnics and boat rides with all her relatives and friends. A favorite pastime was admiring the beauty of "God's Creation" when she was outdoors.
Ruth passed away on March 25, 2012, having reached the age of 89.
