Henry "Hank" Smyklo, 91, 5906 Footemill Road, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born January 2, 1913, in Star Junction, son of the late Andrew and Blanche Musial Smyklo. A resident of the Erie area since 1924, he formerly lived at 1318 E. Gore Road. He had worked as a lathe operator for General Electric Co., retiring in 1973 after nine years. He previously worked at Erie Forge & Steel for 11 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Siebenbuerger, Calabrese and Nuova Aurora clubs and the East and South Erie Turners. He enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Donovan Smyklo, in 1963; his second wife, Vera Dimaria Smyklo, in 1973; his third wife, Katherine Gallagher Strohmeyer Smyklo, in 1988; three sisters, Elizabeth Smyklo King, Ann Smyklo Plonski and Sally Will; and three brothers, Andrew, Stanley and Theodore Smyklo. Survivors include a daughter, Phillis Eades, and her husband, Rusty, of Seminole, Florida; five stepsons, Eugene Strohmeyer and his wife, Susan, and Robert Strohmeyer and his wife, Cindy, all of Erie; Michael Strohmeyer and his wife, Eileen, of Raleigh, North Carolina; Richard Strohmeyer and his wife, Wendy, of Palmer, Alaska; and Paul Strohomeyer and his wife, Mindy, of Angier, North Carolina; a brother, Alexander Smyklo of Hawaii; two sisters, Valerie Smyklo Ram of Kentucky and Eleanor Smyklo Dowling of Hawaii; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Avenue. A service will be held there Thursday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery.
