Absalom Newenham, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Newenham, was born March 19, 1846, near Perry, Ill. Departed this life in Mt Sterling, Ill. June 13, 1924, aged 78 years, 2 months and 25 days.
He was married to Miss Perneta Jane Wilson on March 5, 1868. To this union five children were born:Oliver, who preceded him in death January 5, 1905; Roy, of Danvers, Ill.; Mrs. Elizabeth Kennedy; Mrs. Nell Hume and Miss Ethel at home in Mt. Sterling. His wife preceded him in death Fegruary 27, 1908. Seven grandsons and two granddaughters survive. Also three brothers and one sister: Sylvester, of Marden; George, of Mt. Sterling; Frank, of Augusta, Ill. and Mrs. Margaret Hyler, also of Augusta: brothers-in-law, James M. and William B. Wilson, of Hersman, besides a host of relatives and friends mourn his departure.
He was a veteran of the Civil war, Company F., 28th Infantry.
Funeral services were held from the Newenham residence on East North street, Mt. Sterling, on June 15, by Rev. Freeman Huff, pastor of the Christian church officiating, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The burial was in the city cemetery at Mt. Sterling. The casket beareres were Earl, Eldon Kyle, Charles and Frank Kennedy and Emmett Newenham.
