Betty J. Crawford (1927-2014)
Betty June Crawford, 86, of Traer, died Sunday, March 23, at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer. She was born August 23, 1927, in Waterloo, daughter of Arthur and Forest Corley Finks. On November 20, 1948, she married Richard Crawford in Traer.
Betty graduated from Traer High School and then attended Iowa State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls. She worked as a dance instructor for 40 years and was a farm wife. She was a member of Ripley United Church of Christ, American Legion, Iowana, Return the Favor and Red Hats.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Rita Schofield of Minneapolis; a son, Rick (Sue) of Dysart; five grandchildren, Nathan Schofield of Minneapolis, Christine Schofield and Kelli Crawford, both of Chicago, Kirk (Amy) Crawford of Dysart and Kamie (Josh) Hurley of Cedar Falls; and five great-grandchildren, Kody and Kolten Crawford and Madison, Kayla and Rylan Hurley. Betty was receded in death by her parents.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ripley United Church of Christ, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, both in Traer. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home, Traer.
Betty loved dancing, quilting, crocheting, gardening, sewing, entertaining, cooking for her family.
