Maxine Adams Doster

On January 24, 2012 Mrs. Maxine Adams Doster went to join the Lord. She was born in Hinson, Florida on September 20, 1923, the daughter of John E. and Edna Trawick Adams of Iron City, Ga. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ernest Doster of Tallahassee, her sons Russell Doster (Diane) of Tallahassee, John Leslie Doster of Arlington, Va, and her sister Joan Adams Lee of Jacksonville, Florida. She was also proud to be the grandmother of 7 grandchildren and many great grand-children. She was predeceased by her daughters Belinda Ann Wheeler of Tallahassee and Margaret Eve Doster of Quincy.

She was an active Southern Baptist throughout her life and was a charter member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church of Quincy and upon moving to Tallahassee she and her family united with Parkway Baptist Church for 20 years. She and her husband moved to Bradfordville in 1979 causing them to transfer their membership to a small group who became charter members of Bradfordville First Baptist Church of today. While there she became a Ladies Bible Study Teacher, which she continued for 22 years. Her work in teaching the word of the Lord was a source of great pride and joy for her. For the last 5 years she and her husband have been members of East Hill Baptist Church where she turned her talents to the kitchen, gaining fame with her Wednesday salads.

She was a registered nurse and enjoyed many years of employment in various positions throughout the Tallahassee medical community. Her last 10 years of employment were spent at Lively Vocational School in Health Education as a much-valued teacher.

Always conscious of her duties to the community she enjoyed several years in the Jr. Women's Club of Quincy and then many more years in the Tallahassee Women's Club. In her later years she turned her attention to the cause of animals and became active in efforts to sustain and protect our wildlife. One of her last great points of pride was her "adoption" of a wild tiger cub of which she often spoke.

She loved her family dearly and enjoyed so many happy times with them. She expressed many times her amazement in God's gift to her of so much joy and happiness with her family. She was extremely proud of her beloved husband and grateful to God for the many happy years He gave them to be together. He was her most precious companion for 67 years and father of her 4 precious children.

Also, the companionship she enjoyed with her 3 sisters, Gwendolyn Evans, Joan Lee and Duane Smith was a special gift. She was proud to relate that her dad never mentioned any disappointment in having all girls and no boys.
