Johannette was described as being a bit nutty, but one can understand this given how difficult her life was. She arrived in America in 1895 at the age of 17 by herself. She met Henry Grimm and they married. Henry and Johannette built a life based on a bakery business and they quickly had five children. Then Henry died in his early 40's, leaving Johannette alone with a youthful family. She would raise them all to adulthood and they would all become productive members of society. Hats off to you Nette!

She was known for saying, in a heavy German accent, "if the Kaiser were still here we wouldn't have these problems!"
