Constance Bowman Addington, 84, of Abingdon, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was born in Dickenson County, Va. She did undergraduate work at Berea College and East Tennessee State University, and she earned her BS degree from Radford College in elementary education. Mrs. Addington did graduate work at the University of Colorado and earned a Master's degree from VPI in education with a minor in history and psychology.

Mrs. Addington taught school in Buchanan Co., Dickenson Co., Maryland and Montgomery Co., at Blacksburg Elementary School. Mrs. Addington was principal of Blacksburg Elementary from 1954 until 1960, when she became Elementary Supervisor for Montgomery County Schools. She later served as Director of Instruction for Montgomery County, retiring from that position in 1970.

Mrs. Addington then moved to Abingdon, where she resided until her death. Mrs. Addington was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Sproule officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon. Pallbearers will be the nephews. The family will not receive friends at the funeral home, but friends are welcome to come to the funeral home to pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to the Children's Home of the Highlands, P.O. Box 545, Wytheville, VA 24382.
