Etta M. "Poochie" Ashe, 67, Kokomo, passed away at 9:57 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Howard Regional Health System. She was born Jan. 26, 1944, in Kokomo, the daughter of Rex and Katie (Hollinger) Nash. On Aug. 10, 1982, in Cottage Grove, Ore., she married Hayes Ashe, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1997.
Etta attended Burnettsville schools. She was a health-care aide for several nursing homes, retiring in December 1994. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life. She enjoyed music, Christian fellowship and cooking.
Etta is survived by two daughters, Brenda Dickerson and Cindy Scott, both of Kokomo; one son, Tracy Carpenter and wife Tammy, Farmland; four granddaughters, Jenni Ward, Jessica Dempsey, Samantha Carpenter and Ashley Carpenter; two grandsons, John Scott III and Richard Carpenter; six great-grandchildren, Gavin Ward, Jayden Ward, Liam Scott, David Dempsey, Grace Dempsey and Gabby Dempsey; and one brother, Robert E. (Janice) Hancock, Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, John Scott Jr. and Rex M. Scott; granddaughter, Whitney Carpenter; six brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson St., with the Rev. Bobby Hancock officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery.
