Comfort enlisted as a Marine in 1778, was discharged and rejoined in the Continental Army. He was discharged from it in 1780.
Comfort moved to Bradford County, Pennsylvania in 1808. His first wife and mother of four sons (Wilmot, Comfort Spooner, Junebeth and Alpheus) is unknown, having married 2nd wife, Charity Jones in 1806 and 3rd wife, Mercy Hill Darling in 1833. However, this third marriage was deemed fraudulent. Charity was still alive at the time of his death and for some years after per correspondence in his pension file.

Mr. P. resided for many years in the town of Columbia, Bradford Co. Pa. which place he recently left, and traveled through the country to Swanzey. His last illness continued about three weeks, which he endured with Christian fortitude. His remains were interred on the 11th inst. in Winchester (N.H.) by the side of his brother (who was also one of the band of veterans) by his request. Another obituary, names his date of death as the 9th of month. Since there seems to be a disparity in dates among the obituaries, I have chosen to go with the dates as contained in his pension record and death record.
