Jonathan Gibson 3rd was born around 1729. He was son of Jonathan Gibson 2nd and Margaret (Catlett) Gibson and a first cousin of Eleanor Conway Madison, mother of President James Madison. He was one of Madison's godfathers.

Jonathan would have accompanied his family's move to Orange Co., Virginia in his boyhood. He married Susannah Harrison around 1755, probably in that part of Prince William County that became Fauquier County. They were long-time residents of the Elk Run community in Fauquier County. There were several children and at least six survived to adulthood.

Jonathan Gibson's will of 1788 was probated in 1791 in Fauquier Co., Virginia. (Bio by Mark Hale)
