"James Aggas was born on May 6, 1839 and died November 13, 1889. He married Anna Catherine Andre on December 15, 1864. James enlisted in the Civil War on August 31, 1864, in the 6th Pennsylvania Artillery Company A and was discharged on June 13, 1865 from Fort Ethan Allen, Virginia. Most of his duty was spent in Washington D.C. and surrounding forts. James was the executor of his father's will and lived his entire life on the old homestead. Six children were born to this union. James and his wife area buried in Rider Lutheran Cemetery in Lot #18.
The following is taken from the Butler Eagle (a local newspaper):
"James Aggas died in Centre Township on Tuesday, November 13, 1889 of an infection of the lungs. James Aggas was about 50 years. Mr. Aggas was a genial and kindhearted citizen and a devout Christian. He was a member of the Rider Lutheran Church."
