Frances Mintree Smith was born in Calaway County, Missouri on July 18, 1826 and died October 18, 1911. Aged 85 years and 3 months. She was the daughter of John W. and Sarah Vinton Smith. She married when 21 years of age to John Morgan. To them were born 3 sons, 2 of them, Floyd and Joseph, are living. They moved to Princeton , Missouri and later to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mr. Morgan died about 1850, leaving her a widow. After a time she removed to Princeton, Missouri. Here she was married to Peter Ruark in the year 1854, and moved to Wayne County, Iowa the same year. She has resided here ever since.
To Frances and Peter were born 10 children, 4 of whom died in infancy. The living are Mrs. Juda Hawk, Confidence, Iowa; James Ruark, Glidden, Iowa; Isaac Ruark, Garden Grove, Iowa; George Ruark, Mrs. Belle Green and Edward Ruark, Confidence, Iowa.
Deceased confessed Christ in her youth and united with the Baptist Church. Later she united with the Methodist Church. She remained faithful to her Christian profession until death and assured her loved ones as the end was near the she was ready to go. Many bear testimony to the genuineness of her religion and wil call her blessed for the blameless life she lived. She died while visiting her son in Garden Grove, Iowa and the remains were brought to Confidence at her request for burial.
The funeral service was conducted from the Baptist Church, Confidence, on Thursday 19 October, at 11 o'clock a.m. The Sermon was delivered by Rev. A.E. Clemens, pastor of the Baptist Church, Seymour, Iowa. A large congregation of friends and relatives were present and the sympathy of the entire community is given the bereaved children.
