Johnny Franklin Rader, 85, died on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. He was born in Houston on May 5, 1926 where he lived until he retired to West Columbia with his wife, Dolores Gupton Rader.

Johnny earned Eagle Scout status at 13 years of age in November 24, 1939. After graduating from San Jacinto High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in Company 5E, U.S. Naval Hospital Corps as a corpsman.

After completing his service during WWII, he attended the University of Texas and was elected as a member of the Silver Spurs and was also a member of S.A.E. fraternity, he graduated with a B.A. degree in 1951.

Johnny was a staunch supporter of the UT football teams and held four box seats on the 45 yard line for 35 years and never missed a game.

Johnny was a master salesman for Massachusetts Mutual Insurance for forty years where he earned membership in the "Million Dollar Club" for most of the years. He was a dedicated lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Tejas Vaquero's Trail Riders and The "100 Club", serving on the Board of Directors and Vice-President of each. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Rader, Jr. M.D. and Ada Newell Rader, daughter, Lisa and brother, Robert.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dolores Gupton Rader, two step-children, Cynthia B. Saville (Earl) of West Columbia, and L.C. (Ace) Brandt (Kathy) of May Pearl, Texas; four grandchildren; nephew Frank Rader of Austin, and niece Shannon Rader Rider of San Antonio.

Graveside services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11:00am.
