Born in Newberry, SC he a son of the late Arthur B. and Myrtis Cave Cromer. He retired from U. S. Postal service after 43 years. He was a U. S. Army sergeant with the 315 Infantry having served in WWII, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post # 91, Life member and past Master Mason of Blackville Lodge # 63, the Scottish Rite, the York Rite and was a Jamil Temple Shriner. He was a member of The Blackville First Baptist Church, served as treasurer for 20 years and was a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Humphries Cromer of the home, a son, Durward C. (Caryl W.) Cromer, Jr., of Duluth, GA; sister, Myrtis (Tootsie) Benner of Laurens, SC; brother, Fickling W. Cromer of Blackville and three grandchildren, Tara L. LaBarbera, Brandi N. Bouland and Durward Ross Cromer. He was preceded in death by a brother, A. Allison Cromer; sisters, Dorcus C. Pratt and Arlene Cooper.
