Funeral Services for Durward Cave Cromer, Sr., 88, of Blackville, will be held four p.m., Saturday at The Blackville First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas Terry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Cromer died Thursday, October 30, 2008.

Born in Newberry, SC he a son of the late Arthur B. and Myrtis Cave Cromer. He retired from U. S. Postal service after 43 years. He was a U. S. Army sergeant with the 315 Infantry having served in WWII, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post # 91, Life member and past Master Mason of Blackville Lodge # 63, the Scottish Rite, the York Rite and was a Jamil Temple Shriner. He was a member of The Blackville First Baptist Church, served as treasurer for 20 years and was a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Humphries Cromer of the home, a son, Durward C. (Caryl W.) Cromer, Jr., of Duluth, GA; sister, Myrtis (Tootsie) Benner of Laurens, SC; brother, Fickling W. Cromer of Blackville and three grandchildren, Tara L. LaBarbera, Brandi N. Bouland and Durward Ross Cromer. He was preceded in death by a brother, A. Allison Cromer; sisters, Dorcus C. Pratt and Arlene Cooper.
