San Francisco Alcalde (Mayor). A native of San Jose, California, Francisco Sanchez was chosen to serve as the eighth Alcalde, or Chief Administrator, of San Francisco while under Mexican rule serving in 1843. His brother, Jose de la Cruz Sanchez, would be appointed Alcalde in 1845.
