Ron was on the Davenport Fire Department from May 1958 until January of 1962, at which time he joined the Davenport Police Department. He helped reorganize the motorcycle patrol unit. When he retired on Sept. 1, 1992, he had obtained every rank within the department and ended his career by serving as interim Chief of Police. He was a member of the Iowa State Police Association, a past president of the Davenport Police Officers Local 2, served on the board of directors of the Jerry Rabiner Memorial Boys Ranch, Fort Dodge. He was also a member of the Davenport Elks, the Davenport Eagles and Pheasants Forever. He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps, with the rank of Seargent.
