Denny owned and operated Ansel's Auto Service - a towing company - of Dubuque, Iowa for many years. Denny was a veteran race car driver - having drove No. 80 at many tri-state area tracks since 1964. He was also a big NASCAR fan, especially Ernhardt racing. Denny raced in features at the Dubuque Speedway for 35 consecutive years until cancer forced him to quit after 2002. He continued to work at the track providing wrecker services and watching his nephew race for as long as possible. Denny married Betty Jean Cornwell at Saint Mary's Church in Dubuque on Feb 4, 1967.
