Mary (Meme) Kathryn Christenson, age 56, of Waukee, Iowa and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mary Kathryn Dean was born November 25, 1954 in Linn Grove, Iowa the daughter of Ward and Miriam (Olson) Dean. As an infant, Mary was baptized in November 1954. Mary was confirmed at St Mary's Catholic Church in 1991 in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Growing up, Mary lived in Linn Grove, Marathon, and then Storm Lake. Mary attended Storm Lake High School and graduated in 1973. She attended Faust Institute of Cosmetology and graduated in May, 1995. On December 11, 1973 Mary was united in marriage to her soul mate, Paul Christenson in Storm Lake, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with one son, Ryan.

Mary and Paul moved to Waukee, Iowa in 1999. Mary loved working with kids and had a home daycare for many years. Mary went to work at Waukee Schools to continue working with children. She worked there for 8 years until she needed to be the loving, caring, nurse to Paul.

Mary was a wonderful mother, aunt, sister, friend and fairy godmother. She cherished all of the times with her family and friends which were very important to her. Paul and Mary loved to "treasure" hunt at goodwill and garage sales. Mary enjoyed crafting and collecting antiques. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ryan Christenson of Jackson, Tennessee; brothers: Everett Dean of Dickens, Iowa; Jerry (Pam) Dean of Tama, Iowa; Bruce (Jane) Dean of Gayville, South Dakota; sisters: Carol Simonson of Lake City, Florida; Anne (Ed) Shugar of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents, Ward and Miriam Dean; and parents-in-law, Bernard and June Christenson.
