She was the fourth child of Wahrena and Nathaniel Gordon.
Her early education was in the schools of St. Helena Parish. She graduated from Southern University and taught in St. Helena and East Baton Rouge parishes. She received a master's degree from LSU, did further study at the University of Oklahoma and taught for 36 years before retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Educators of Yesteryear and the Association of University Women.
Evelyn Bradford became a member of Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church, under the auspices of the Rev. Richard Calvin Sr. She was a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild, the Senior Choir and United Methodist Women.
Evelyn was married to James R. Bradford and they were the parents of three children. Evelyn is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Willie Brown and Barbara and Isadore Brown Jr.; a son, James A. Bradford; eight grandchildren, Anne E. Brown, Isadore Brown III, Houston, Wahrena and husband Allen Pfeister, South Korea, James David Brown, William K. and wife Jade Brown, Tory T. and wife Kenya Brown, Trey A. Brown, and James B. Knox; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther L. and husband Major Golden and Enola and husband Harry Wade, California; brother, Isaac B. Gordon, Greensburg; three sisters-in-law, Julia B. Moore, Ernestine D. Gordon, Clinton, and Kay Gordon Adams, California; a godchild, Melvileen H. and husband Claud Simms, Hearn, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bradford; parents, Wahrena and Nathaniel Gordon; a sister, Ruby Scarver; and two brothers, Samuel and James Gordon.
Visiting at Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church, 8642 Scenic Highway, religious service, conducted by Darlene A. Moore, pastor.
Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens.
