Arletha Evelyn Dabney Davis, 79, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Continental Care Center of Seymour.

Arletha was born July 15, 1931 at Hopeful, Louisa County, Virginia, the daughter of Ralph Emerson and Mary Retton(Brooks)Dabney.

She received her State Teachers Certificate July 1953, from Virginia State College and a Master of Education in 1977 from Trenton State College, Trenton, New Jersey. For 30 years Arletha taught elementary school at Barkley Brook School in Monroe County, New Jersey, retiring in June 1994.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Chruch in Lakewood, New Jersey for 30 years.

She is survived by her son Quintin E. Davis of Seymour and daughter-in-law Cyndi Davis of Cincinnati and 18 grandchildren Lucynda Davis, Nathaniel Davis, Josiah Davis, Elijsha Davis, Kezia Davis, Keturah Davis, Jalon Davis, Malah Joy Davis, Japheth Davis, Dante Christianson, Gabriel Allyse, Dezmond Dabney, Brittany Dabney, Cierra Dabney, D.J.Dabney, Jakyrah Dabney and Taylor Dabney, sisters Edna Dabney, Thelma Nelson, Lucy Mallory, and Sadie Yancey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dale Dabney and an infant granddaughter Tiffany Dabney, sister Arlene Jackson and brother Charles Dabney.
