Archie Ruben Barkley
(May 6, 1921 - January 27, 2011)
Archibald "Archie" Ruben Barkley, age 89, of Walker Rd., Maiden passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
Born May 6, 1921 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late George Alexander Barkley and Phyllis Barker Barkley. Mr. Barkley was a member of Lawings Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden; a National Guard World War II veteran; a member of American Legion Post 16, Newton and was owner/operator of Archie's Realty & Auction Sales.
In addition to his parents, a son, L.C. Barkley preceded him in death.
Survivors include:
Wife: Ethel Barkley of the home.
6 sons: Danny Barkley of Newton; Randy Barkley and wife, Dianne of Claremont; Philip Barkley and wife, Ann of Maiden; Ruben Barkley and wife, Ricki of Vale; Richard Barkley of Maiden; George Barkley and wife, Betty of Maiden.
1 Sister: Margaret Ellis of Shelby.
17 Grandchildren; 29 Great-Grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Lawings Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden with Rev. Marion Powell officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with graveside honors performed by American Legion Post 16 of Newton.
The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. at the church.
