Robert Franklin (Bob) Mathis, of Edgar Springs, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the age of 77.
He was born in Flat, MO on December 25, 1993 to the late Ike and Mary (Williams) Mathis.
He was united in marriage to Helen June Wilson on December 25, 1945 and they were later blessed with eight children.
Bob was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church for over 50 years. He operated heavy equipment and was a member of the local Operators Union. He was a small business owner and performed mechanic work most of his life.
Bob loved the outdoors. In his spare time you could always find him in the woods hunting or sitting on a riverbank somewhere. He loved to comp, gig fish, boat rides, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed working with his hand in his garage.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandaughter.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife of over 56 years, June Mathis, of the home; eight children, Robert Daniel Mathis and wife Evelyn, Franklin Keith Mathis and wife Patty, Len Sterling Mathis and wife Cheryl, Pamela June Dye and husband Ralph, all of Edgar Springs, Maria Kay Smith and husband Dave, Darla Mae Heavin and husband Dave, both of Rolla, Brian Lee Mathis and Kevin Jarvis Mathis and his wife Avery, both of Edgar Srpings, one sister, Bertha Hodge, of Rolla; two brothers, Joe Mathis, of Lebanon, MO, and Don Mathis, of Flat, MO; 19 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren, and 1 step great grandson.
A funeral service for Bob Mathis will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Pastors Bobby Mathis and Mike Gorman will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Edgar Springs. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to teh service Friday beginning at noon.
