Martin was a 1980 graduate of Boswell High School, after which he attended Tarrant County College, where he majored in airframe and powerplant mechanics. As a young man, Martin was a member of the FFA in Keller, and enjoyed motorcycle riding, snow and water skiing and sailing. During a period in the 1980s, he was the proprietor of Southwest Propeller Service in Lake Worth. Although a welder by trade, Martin had talents for poetry, song-writing and wood-carving. A lover of nature and the simple things, Martin was known for his kind-hearted, jovial spirit. He will be remembered not for possessions or accomplishments, but for who he was outwardly and in his heart -- "just a good friend." Martin was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Alta B. Martin of Lancaster and Mary C. Whipp of Houston; and a paternal aunt, Mary Sue Hubbard, of Los Angeles, Calif. Fort Worth Star-Telegram, November 21, 2004.
