Born in Alberton, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of the late Rev. John W. Turpel and the late Gladys (Earnsby) Turpel, she lived in New Bedford since she was 18 years old. She attended schools in Canada, Maine and Massachusetts, graduating from Saugus High School. Ethel attended Eastern Nazarene College and Olivet Nazarene College. She worked as a Nurse's Aide at St. Luke's Hospital many years and as a school teacher at the Phillips Ave. School in New Bedford.
Ethel was a longtime member of the First church of the Nazarene where she served on the church board for many years and also as the Financial Secretary and Sunday School Teacher for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Bette Jervinis and her husband Chuck of Chester, NH; two sons, Glenn D. Allen and his wife Becky of Henderson, TX and Neil W. Allen and his wife Donna of New Bedford; a brother John Turpel of New Bedford; a sister, Florence Murray of British Columbia; six grandchildren, Jaclyn and Sarah Jervinis of NH, Patricia and David Allen of FL and Brent and Sherilyn Allen of New Bedford; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Allen was the sister of the late Douglas Turpel, Jenny Wise and Gladys Jackson.
