Age 91, passed away on May 18, 2011 at the Franciscan Care Center, surrounded by his family.

Joe retired from the DuPont Company in 1978 after 38 years of service. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, where he was an usher, a member of the Holy Name Society, and a volunteer at the Italian Festival.

In addition to this wife of 69 years, Elizabeth (Sylvester) Capodanno, Joe is survived by his son Joseph Jr. (Joanne); 3 daughters, Marguerite Werner (Robert), Jacqueline Brown (Thomas), and Adrian Morris (Glenn); 5 grandchildren, Lucia Spillan (James), Joseph Capodanno III, Julie Capodanno, Steven Werner, and Patrick Brown; and 3 great-grandchildren, Dalton, Darby, and Bailee Spillan. Joe was predeceased by his parents, John and Marguerite, his siblings, and his granddaughter, Kelly Brown.

Visitation will be held for family and friends at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington, Monday evening, May 23 from 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Sts. in Wilmington, on Tuesday morning, May 24 at 10 am. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810, or to St. Anthony of Padua Feast Day Committee, 901 N. DuPont St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
