Statesboro - Mrs. Maxie B. Smith, 88, died Friday at Statesboro Nursing Home after a short illness. She was a native of Bryan County but had lived in Statesboro for most of her life and was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a stepson, B. Floyd Brannen of Statesboro; a stepdaughter, Mrs. H. L. Atwell of Statesboro; seven step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Barnes Funeral Home in Statesboro with burial in Eastside Cemetery.
