Joseph married Sarah Jane DeLoach, daughter of Isaac DeLoach and Elizabeth Isabell Barnard, both of whom are buried in the Barnard Cemetery, Claxton, Evans Co., GA.

Joseph and Sarah Jane married 27 Feb 1873, most likely in Tattnall Co., GA and had the following children:

1. Nathan Clinton Brewton, b. 03 Jan 1874; d. 28 Apr 1897, buried in H7 of this cemetery.

2. Martha Isabella Brewton, b. 11 Mar 1876; d. 09 Jan 1939, married to Benjamin Franklin Wolfe.

3. Benjamin Isaac Brewton, b. 25 Sep 1879; d. 25 Jul 1914, buried in section H7 of this cemetery; married to Daisie Iverson Newton, also buried in this cemetery.

4. Jane Elizabeth Brewton, b. Sep 1884; d. 23 Jul 1973, married to Linton Miles Harvey.

5. Minnie Maxie Brewton, b. June 1887, married 3 times: William J. Lott; B. C. Brannen; James McNatt Smith.

6. Ida Mae Brewton, b. 10 Mar 1890; d. 18 Mar 1896, buried in section H7 of this cemetery.

7. Ellie Lee Brewton, b. Sep 1894; d. 07 Dec 1963 in Savannah, Chatham Co., GA; married John Daniel Hagan first, then a Parrish. She is listed as Ellie B. H. Parrish on her death certificate.

8. Clarence C. Brewton, b. 16 Feb 1895, a twin, d. 29 Oct 1918, buried in section H7 of this cemetery. He shares a marker with his twin brother. I have seen his middle initial as L also in other family member's notes. Note: Listed on death certificate: single; occupation: soldier, Rct, Co 7, NRC,father: J. A. Brewton, File No: 3587970, 29 Oct 1918.

9. Clinton L. Brewton, b. 16 Feb 1895, d. 14 May 1895, a twin to Clarence, they share a marker in section H7 of this cemetery.

After his wife who died just two months after her twin sons were born in 1895, Joseph remarried to Viola KENNEDY, in 1896 and had two more children.

1. John Brewton, b. 16 Sep 1897, died before 1910 census.

2. Gwendoline Brewton, b. 1904
