Albert was living in Runnels County, TX when he enlisted into the US Army on 27 Nov 1940. While in the Army he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He earned the Purple Heart and other service and campagin medals.

Funeral services for Albert Frederick Grohman, 77, of Sugar Land, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home in Rosenberg, with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 8, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home, 1201 Fourth Street, in Rosenberg. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville, with the Rev. Herb Beyer officiating. Rev. Beyer will oversee the Rosenberg service as well.
Mr. Grohman's untimely death on Saturday, March 6, 1999, was the result of an early morning car accident in Lavaca County where he had spent his time farming and raising cattle. Mr. Grohman was born March 19, 1921 in Rockdale.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Lillian Urban Grohman; both of his parents, Fred Grohman of Germany and Mary Helmeke of Rockdale; and one sister, Emma Thompson of Winters.
He is survived by four brothers and one sister, Charlie Grohman and John Grohman, both of Winters, Henry Grohman of Senora, Calif., and Paul Grohman of Abilene; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His local surviving nieces and nephews include Linda Cox, Betty David, Ronald David, and Donald Sands, all of Rosenberg, and Marilyn Sodolac and Melvin Sands, both of East Bernard. His godchildren include Stephanie McDowell of Wharton and Shannon Cox of Rosenberg.
After serving five long years in the U.S. Army and another five years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, he retired. His overseas tours included being in Germany during World War II, and he was awarded a Purple Heart for his services.
Mr. Grohman was a member of American Legion Post 271 in Rosenberg, and he was also a member of the Sugar Land Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the American Veterans Association.
He was employed by the Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land until his retirement after 47 years.
Acting as pallbearers for the funeral will be Ronald David and Paul Smith, nephews of Mr. Grohman, and Billy Duvalle, Matt Dylla, Vernon Miller, Gary Olive, Marion Raska, and Bill Walker, all good, long-time friends. Richard Fenner, Gary Siecko and members of the Sugar Land Fire Department will act as honorary pallbearers because of their very special relationships with Mr. Grohman.
In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. Out-of-town arrangements are under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville, while local arrangements are under the direction of Garmany & Carden Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
