Margaret Eleanor Barry


Margaret Eleanor Barry, 91, of North Platte, died May 11, 2005, at Linden Court.
She was born Feb. 16, 1914, to Gust and Jennie Kennedy Nelson in Overton. She grew up in the Overton area, and moved with her family to rural Sutherland, where she finished her schooling. On Dec. 23, 1931, she married William "Will" David Barry. He preceded her in death April 25, 2001. The couple farmed South-West of Sutherland for most of their married life. She moved to North Platte in October 2001. Mrs. Barry was a member of Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Paxton and worked as a nurses' aid for 25 years in nursing homes in Sutherland and Ogallala. She enjoyed square dancing and Old Time Music. She loved and spoiled her Chihuahuas.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine (Dr. Rex) Bridgeman of Ord and Shirley Lingbloom of North Platte; two sisters, Mary Baumgartner and Dorothy (Merle C.) Smith both of North Platte; four grandchildren, Tom (Trudy) Lingbloom of Minneapolis, Minn., Jim (Kim) Lingbloom of Julesburg, Colo., Elaine (John) Steel of Goodyear, Ariz. and Lexanne Bridgeman of Rapid City, S.D.; five great-grandchildren, Shelby, Tish and Jill Lingbloom, Tony Lingbloom and Shane Steele; a sister-in law, Irene Nelson of Paxton; and numerous other family members and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Edward; a son-in-law, Bob Lingbloom; three brothers, Charles, Pershing "Swede" and Oscar Nelson; a sister, Hilda Swenson; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial has been established to the local Alzheimer's Support Group.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Ned Cooper of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at the Paxton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
