Joe D. Allen, 80, of Mexia, passed away on April 12, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mexia with Rev. Michael Vestal and Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery. Family visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home.
Joe was born on July 13, 1930 in Limestone County, Texas to Edney Reed and Eula Evalina Archibald Allen. He married his sweetheart, Mary Frances Morrow, on October 25, 1947 in Mexia. "Pappaw, as he was affectionately called, was a great friend to everyone he met and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a dirt contractor for 60 years and a rancher who loved taking care of his cattle. He also loved to fish and spend time with his family.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Linda Sue Allen; son, Joe Lynn Allen; brothers, Raymond Allen, Marvin Allen and William Allen as well as a sister, Mary Helen Vickery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Allen of Mexia; son, Jerry Allen & wife, Donna, of Mexia; daughter-in-law, Debbie Allen of Mexia; grandchildren, Chris Allen and wife, Cari, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Becky Allen of Austin, Stacie Carroll & husband, Bo, of Groesbeck, Brandi Jones & husband, Michael, of Mexia, Lacy Allen of Tyler; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Guandique, Jayden Guandique, Kelsie Jones; and Madison Allen; brothers, Harvey Allen & wife, Maudine, of Mexia and Charlie Allen & wife, Dorothy, of Mexia as well as many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Allen, Dennis Allen, Terry Don Shivers, Kenny Kitchens, Norman Samford and Don Archibald.
The family request that memorial contributions for Joe be made to Temple Baptist Church of Mexia or the charity of your choice.
