The son of Anthony and Erika Argenti, Robert enlisted in the Marine Corps on August 15, 1968 in Providence RI.

He arrived in Vietnam for duty on August 27, 1969 and was assigned to Company G, 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein)FMF.

During Operation Pickens Forest while on patrol on the northwestern slope of Hill 479 proceeding north along a trail a loud explosion occurred when a Marine tripped an enemy explosive device resulting in the death of Cpl Argenti by multiple fragmentation wounds.
