From the Greenfield Vedette, March 11, 1926 -- Ray Jones who suffered a broken arm at the Greenfield Tournament, was taken to Springfield last week to have the bones reset. It was necessary that he be placed under an anesthetic as the flesh of the arm split. The bones were then set. Ray says he lived all of these years before he found out that his primary teacher told the truth about one's feelings as he goes under an anesthetic, and now says he has found the advantage of his first grade teaching.

Greenfield Vedette, October 3, 1935 -- The big event of the week was the wedding last Saturday night of Ray Walter Jones and Miss Mary Virginia Dilday, popular young couple here. The bride is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mont Wheeler, with whom she has lived since the deaths of her father and mother. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. "Mitt" Jones. Both are well known and liked here, and their many friends will wish them a happy journey through life. A huge crowd gave them an old fashioned Charivari Monday night . At present they are living with the groom's parents.

The marriage didn't last as Mary Virginia filed for divorce, their case scheduled on the June 21, 1937 Greenfield, Dade County, MO Circuit Court docket.

In the early 1960's Ray survived a house fire that could have taken his life. He was living in his childhood home at Everton after his parents had passed away. As he was lighting a stove fire it got away from him and burned the house down. Ray was hospitalized for burns he suffered, fortunately he survived and lived in a mobile home on the same home site where he grew up.

Ray had a number of jobs in his lifetime. He worked in general stores and owned one at Pilgrim for a few years, he worked at Producers Creamery in Springfield and was also employed at a fish hatchery.

Ray, of Everton, married Evelyn Asbell, of Aldrich, May 2, 1940, at Greenfield, Dade County, MO, by Tom Proctor at his home. They were the parents of two children. At the time of his death Ray was a resident of the Dade County Nursing Home at Greenfield, MO. Funeral services were held at Liberty Baptist Church.

Ray was known as "Little Mitt," after his father's nickname, around the town of Everton.
