William was a Civil War veteran, with Co. I, 33rd Indiana Infantry. William married Louisa Charlotte Wochler (Wachler?) (1830-1906) on 26 May 1850 at Bartholomew County, Indiana. William and Louisa were the parents of nine known children, namely:
1. John Hauser (1851-???)
2. Amelia Isabella Hauser Farrah (1852-1902)
3. Charles B. Hauser (1854-???)
4. Sarah Ida Hauser (1855-1867)
5. Albert A. Hauser (1859-1901)
6. Frederick Simeon Hauser (1860-1913)
7. Florence L. Hauser (1862-???)
8. Lillian Hauser Brown Bowman (1867-1957)
9. William E. Hauser (1867-1890)
The family was living at Haw Creek Township, Bartholomew County, Indiana at the times of the 1850 and 1860 censuses. Mr. Jim Forcum, a Find-A-Graver contributor found the family on the 1870 census, living at Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana with William's occupation listed as "Billiard Saloon."
Jim also found that William was mentioned in "Official records of the Union and Confederate Armies, 1861-1865" On 21 Oct 1861, Brig. Gen. Geo W Thomas reports that Capt Hauser had his finger amputated as a result of the Battle of Rockcastle Hills, Rockcastle County, Kentucky on this date.
In 1880 the parents and six of their children were living at Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas and running a hotel. Nine children of William and Louise have been identified, all born in Indiana.
It is not sure why William is buried in Colorado, did the family move there for a period or was William visiting or traveling? His son Charles Hauser was known to have moved from Indiana to Colorado.
Links to William's parents, wife, six of his nine known children and three of his four known siblings are included below.
